Round 10
08/10 August 2003
Oulton Park
Going back to one of my favourite circuits was exciting, but I was also nervous because I had crashed there on the last lap whilst leading earlier this year.
The weekend started well with me being quickest in the free practice and qualifying sessions to take pole position by about half a second. I was so pleased to be on pole at Oulton and to pick up my fourth ‘Animal’ watch.
In the race I managed to get an average start and was away with the leaders sitting pretty in third place. By lap five I knew there was someone close behind me so I had to up the tempo a little as I made the pass on Kieran Clarke for second place. Tommy and I then started to pull away from Kieran and Benjie Cockerill. I knew that I was better than Tommie in certain places on the circuit and I made the pass on him. Just as I passed him the bike hit a false neutral gear and lost me nearly two seconds, I had to make this time back up in three laps, but managed it in one with a new lap record. I passed Tommy at the last corner with one lap left were I pulled out nearly a one second gap on him to take my second win of the year.
It was a fantastic weekend, which I really enjoyed. I got pole position, won the race and a new lap record!
