Round 12
12/14 September 2003
Brands Hatch Indy
I was very excited about racing at Brands because I was hoping for a good result. It was only when I was rushed into hospital on Friday with severe sickness that my excitement faded and I started to panic about not being able to ride. The doctors at the circuit told me I couldn't race and I needed to go to hospital. I was driven straight to St Marys Hospital in Sidcup where they discharged me on the Friday night and on Saturday morning, after a bit of persuading, I was declared fit to race.
I managed to take my sixth pole of the year in qualifying much to my amazement. Race day came and all I had eaten all weekend was two slices of toast and I was really feeling ill again. I got a good start until Benjie Cockerill rode into the side of me and came close to knocking me off. This put me in seventh position on the first lap with a bent brake lever. Tommy Hill had made the break at the front and managed to pull a big lead as I worked my way through the field. I managed to get myself back up to second position but it was to late to catch Tommy as the circuit is so small.
Under the circumstances I did the best I could have. Although I was really disappointed because I needed to win this race in order to win the R6 Cup.
