Round 03
22/24 April 2005
Mallory Park
After leaving Thruxton with some points I really wanted to score some decent points at my home circuit, Mallory Park . I knew the pressure was going to be on to get a good result and impress the team this weekend.
Free practice and qualifying went well although we had a few tyre issues to decide on before the race. I managed to put a decent time in on Saturday afternoon to secure 8 th position on the grid for Sundays race which I was happy with because I knew I could stay with the leaders from this grid position.
Race day came and I had a lot of sponsors and guests at the meeting including The Policy Shop and Millennium Body Repairs, so I wanted to do my best and impress the people that come along to support me.
I got a good start and was sixth going into the first corner. I stayed in that position until the end of the first lap and the race was red flagged due to two separate incidents on the track.
The re-start of the race was even better for me as I moved into fifth off the line and stayed the leading pack. The racing was close and a great battle for the first half of the race between myself, Jay Vincent, Craig Jones and Leon Camier. Tom Sykes led re-start and was pulling away from the pack.
As we were battling Jay Vincent crashed at the hairpin which meant I was 4 th but I lost a bit of time trying to miss the debris. Craig Jones who was in front of me and for the next 5 laps I was closing the gap on him but unfortunately I got held up by a back marker which lost any chance of me finishing 3 rd . For the last 5 laps I just kept the same distance away from the fifth place rider and brought the bike home in 4 th place. I now look forward to capitalising on my result at Oulton Park next weekend!
