Round 06
03/05 June 2005
Croft
Croft is a great circuit and the team and I were hoping for a good result.
Fridays practice went well with me finishing 4th respectively.
Saturdays qualifying came and the first session was wet. I ended the session 5 th but really enjoyed riding the bike in the wet conditions and I felt really comfortable. At the start of the second session the weather was dry but looked as if it was going to rain so everyone really went for it in the first half of the session to get a good lap in before the rain started.
Unfortunately I had a big crash at the second corner of the circuit with the bike landing on top of me. I was knocked out for a few seconds and when I got back up I was in a lot of pain in my arm.
I was taken to the medical centre where I was given gas and air to relieve the pain while the staff tried to take my leathers off. The medical team suspected I had broken my shoulder blade and also my arm in two places. I was gutted. My team manager Gary Ekerold came to the hospital with me and apparently I was quite entertaining after taking the gas and air!
Whilst at the hospital I had a number of X-rays on both arms, my elbow, back, ankles and both knees. After all of that the only thing that was broken was my knuckle! My arm was still numb and I was in a lot of pain with it. I saw specialists back at the circuit and they said I had no nerve supply to my arm and that explained why my bicep wasn't working and I had no feeling on my skin. I was told to rest and see how I was in the morning.
I was passed fit to ride the next day even with the symptom's getting no better and I had a go in morning warm up. I quite battered and bruised but ok considering.
The race came and as I pulled up onto the grid the bike leaked some oil over my boot. So I didn't manage to start the race due to technical problems and I was unable to jump on my spare bike due to the damaged in Saturdays qualifying. It may have been a bit of a blessing in disguise because my arm was very painful.
I now look forward to seeing specialists about my arm and see about riding at Knockhill. |
