Round 12
23/25 September 2005
Donington Park

I new that Donington was going to be a hard race to win, but going by my previous two performances I knew I could do it. Friday practice and Saturday qualifying went well with me being second in every session but I knew I was the fastest rider on race tyres by about half a second.

Just before the race there was a heavy rain shower that came down and completely soaked the track. I went for a soft rear tyre and new that I could get a lead at the start and try and hold on to it until the end of the race!

That’s exactly what I did. Within six laps I was leading with a 6.2 second gap and was riding well in the wet condition. The track was drying quickly and my lead started to come down as the rear tyre was losing a lot of grip whilst off the throttle going from wet to dry.

On lap nine of the race I came down the Craner Curves and into the Old Hairpin and the bike just came round on me in the conditions. With this happening I managed to save the bike from coming round but then lost the front whilst doing that and went down to my utter devastation. I think this was just part of the luck of racing in the wet. It was an absolute lottery out there in those conditions and it worked for some and not for others. Yesterday I knew I was the best rider out there, it was just unfortunate that I couldn’t turn it into my third consecutive win.

I have now gone back a place in the championship to 4th and it has made me even more determined to win the last round of the season at Brands Hatch and pull back my 3rd position in the championship.

Here’s to Brands and having a go at winning again!
